| Repost from myspace page:
Well, the big ultrasound appointment finally came. Let me just say, I think it's cruel and unusual punishment to make a pregnant woman drink 32 ounces of water, hold it and have some pushing on your stomach ... especially around the bladder ... talk about awful. I know many women have gone through this, but I haven't ... and didn't enjoy it. LOL
Ok, beyond the discomfort now, the appointment went alright. The technician first started out asking if the doctor had mentioned having the ultrasound down on a more sophisticated machine .. because of my having twins, she was having trouble seeing things. She did continue with the ultrasound, though. She told me right after that she wasn't certain she'd be able to determine the sexes today. She got their heartbeats ... Baby A's heartbeat was 167 (up from 153 last time) and Baby B's heartbeat was 156 (down from 160 last time). At this appointment, the technician (different from the last appointment), actually told me how they determine which is Baby A and which is Baby B. Baby is the closest baby to the cervix. Baby B is up higher. I'm actually carrying both babies low which is why I've been so sore lately. At least I have an explanation on that part.
The tech then went about getting the measurements of each baby's head, belly and thigh. I got through Baby A ok ... but my bladder was beginning to feel like it was going to burst ... I just wished she'd go faster with Baby B. No such luck .. because Baby A would not cooperate. B was so active that everytime she tired to get the thigh bone measurements, the baby would kick, move, etc.
Finally the measurements were done and the tech decided she'd try to determine the sex of each baby. Baby B she said she found 3 dots .. and she said that is what indicated it was the libia and hence she thinks Baby B is a Girl. Baby A, she had a harder time, but she did find something hanging down between the babies legs, so, she's pretty sure Baby A is a Boy. So, right now, I think I'm having both a baby boy and a baby girl. She then went around and printed pictures of both babies. Baby B was easier than A. B wouldn't cooperate .. she couldn't get any facial profiles of him. He was just chillin' and didn't want to be disturbed .. lol.
She then went on to check my cervix ... ugh. Pushing right around my bladder, I thought I was going to burst. Not fun at all. She went as quickly as she could. She told me she wanted to talk to the doctor and so him the pictures to determine if he wanted me to have another ultrasound in the diagnostic center. She came back in and said the doctor did want another ultrasound and that they'd get me the information during my visit with the doctor.
The doctor visit went alright. Did not have any weight gain from the last appointment (that's good, I guess). My blood pressure was pretty good - 114/70 (down from last time). Urine was negative for protein .. everything seems to be on track. They scheduled me for the next ultrasound on August 2 (next Wednesday). Oh joy, get to go through the water torture again). But the doctor said that he felt better about having the 2nd ultrasound. He just wants better pictures of the babies to make sure all is going well with them and because the tech was unable to get a clear picture of the cervix, he wanted that rechecked. I asked him about the soreness in the groin area and he prescribed me getting a brace to help with carrying the babies. I'm going to get one, most definitely.
Nothing more happening with that. I'm just glad everything seems to be going alright and am looking forward to seeing the babies again next week. I'll definitely let you know what's happens after that appointment. Next appointment with the doctor is my 24-week checkup on August 30.
| Wow, it's been a while since I've been in here to post. And I can honestly say that nothing much has been going on during that time. Pretty much all I do right now is work, eat and sleep. And sleep ... I do that A LOT. Hoping the tiredness tapers off some ... and soon.
Had my first prenatal appointment last Thursday and everything appears to be going well. I'm going to try to remember the details to share with you.
I had the same nurse as I did for my intake appointment last month, which was nice .. because I really liked her. I'm hoping I get her each time, but probably not. Anyway, did the weight check ... the most exciting part of the appointment. She told me she didn't have to tell me what it was if I didn't want to know. Really thinking I'd already gained I asked her not to tell me. Once in the room, she asked me if I hadn't gained anything, would I be ok with that. YEAH, I would .. I didn't gain anything between May 8 and June 8 so I was satisfied. I know I won't be that lucky down the road. I've been very fortunate so far, I've only felt some nausea, but never gotten physically sick. Next was the blood pressure. I was pretty certain that it would be higher than last time because I was feeling some anxiety about this appointment - so it didn't surprise me. The nurse said it was still good, they aren't concerned. I think she said it was 124/78. It was then time for the ultrasound to hear the babies heartbeats. The nurse said that it was difficult to find one baby's heartbeat at 12 weeks with a stethoscope, but two babies ... near impossible.
The ultrasound tech came and got me ... all went well with that. She found Baby A's heartbeat which was 153. Next was Baby B's heartbeat - really didn't take her long to locate it. Baby B's heartbeat was 179. It was absolutely so amazing to finally hear their heartbeats ... it really seemed even more real to me then. It's actually been real for me since seeing them in their first ultrasound, but actually hearing the heartbeats ... it really hits home.
Once the ultrasound was done, it was time to move to the 3rd room to see the doctor (Dr. Schoenmaker). Really liked him (he's one of two I'm going to be seeing throughout my pregnancy). He came in and introduced himself. Very friendly doctor, put me at ease very quickly. We talked for a couple of minutes about the pregnancy and he pretty much told me that the likelihood of having a c-section is quite high. At first he said 50% but quickly changed that to 75%. He said that everything had to be absolutely perfect to have a natural birth. He mentioned that so much went in to this pregnancy, that they don't want to jeopardize anything. It also made me feel good about my decision not to to any genetic testing when he mentioned that he does not recommend it ... for the same reason - not wanting to jeopardize the twins. He asked if I was experiencing any nausea or tiredness. Definitely the tiredness (more like exhaustion). I can continue to work and do my normal activities until or unless something happens (which he hopes nothing will). He did a complete examination ... and all seemed fine. They will be concerned with my cervix all throughout the pregnancy because I am carrying twins, so each and every appointment now, I'll have a cervix check. The cervix was fine this time .. no problems. All the blood work came back just fine ... and everything seems to be moving along.
Next appointment is July 5 with the other doctor. So, I'm sure I'll have another update at that time. Still scheduled for July 28 for the "big" ultrasound.
That's all the news for now. More to come in a few weeks (unless something exciting happens between now and then).
| Wow ... sitting here tonight trying to decide whether or not to go to bed ... and it's only 9 pm. I'm sooooooooooooo exhausted. Hope this feeling subsides soon enough. Went out today with a friend to try and find baby stuff. Did some grarage sales. Didn't find much - just wasn't ready to seriously buy anything. Maybe when I find out the sexes, I'll get more serious. Unfortunately, since I'm only 8 weeks along (tomorrow) ... it's going to be another 12 weeks (or so) before I do find out. Hopefully will learn more after my first ob/gyn appointment Monday afternoon.
Chad asked about names. Nothing serious yet. Tossing around Tyler and Joshua as boys names and Makayla and Ashleigh for girls names. But again, those could change. My mom told me the other day she dreamt I had named the babies Ashleigh and Allison - so who knows. Thankfully, I have a LONG time to decide.
Have two birthdays to acknowledge tomorrow. First is Ms. Megan. Can't believe she's going to be 19 tomorrow (now, she's one that's definitely making me fell all of my 35+ years. I'm hoping to stop by to see her sometime tomorrow. The other is my friend, Patty's son, Teddy. He turns 5 tomorrow ... with a Curious George birthday party tomorrow afternoon.
Well, I think that's all the news for now. Nothing really happening but lots and lots of sleep. Exactly where I'm heading shortly. Until next time.
